Geodes are made from sedimentary rock, formed when groundwater deposits minerals in host rock crevices. Break open a geode and you'll see the minerals inside - which can fill or partially fill the cavity. Most often, chock full of quartz known as nodules or quartz crystals, like agate. Geodes from Kentucky are usually lined with quartz crystals.
