Even though Hemingway's public image is well-known and his life is full of legendary tales, there are few who truly knew him personally. But with this unique collection of letters - the very first to be published - a new side of Hemingway is unveiled. Spanning from 1917 to 1961, this extensive selection of almost 600 letters serves as both a self-portrait and an autobiography. In his distinct way of writing, Hemingway opens up to various individuals: relatives, acquaintances, foes, publishers, translators, and nearly every notable writer of his time.
